While driving in difficult road conditions, Melody's car started to slide, left the road, and came to rest. The good news is that no one was injured and nothing was damaged. However, Melody did need to be rescued from her predicament. The nearby volunteer fire department responded, rescued Melody and then sent her a bill for $1,200. She asked her insurance company, State Auto, to pay the bill. They denied coverage because the expense was not related to a covered loss. Melody and the fire department did not agree and asked the courts for help.
