AAIS FARMOWNERS PROGRAM AVAILABLE ENDORSEMENTS AND THEIR USES

(October 2023)

INTRODUCTION

The American Association of Insurance Services (AAIS) designed its Farmowners Program to apply to smaller farming operations. It is anchored by several basic coverage forms. Use of basic coverage forms makes program updates easier and allows for simpler and less disruptive program revisions. This approach allows different insurance companies to stay with earlier editions of the program if they wish or adjust and change to the latest one. Using basic coverage forms also reduce the chances that changes to a particular coverage will affect the entire Farmowners Program.

Modifications and changes to the basic coverage forms are necessary to provide customized coverage to meet a particular operation’s needs. AAIS has a number of optional endorsements for operations with coverage needs that the basic coverage forms do not meet. Many of these endorsements require additional premium charges.

This article identifies forms and endorsements that may be attached to the AAIS Farmowners Program coverage forms and policies They are presented in alphanumerical order, followed by their title and a brief description and explanation of the form’s intent. This listing does not include state-specific forms.

FORM NUMBERING

AAIS numbers its forms beginning with two letters followed by a space or a "dash." This is followed by a one, two, three, or four-digit form number. After another space, the edition number, such as "1.0" or the edition date, such as "01 04" is indicated. This analysis does not use edition numbers or dates. The next item is the title, followed by a brief description and explanation of the form or endorsement’s use and intent.

The first two letters represent the coverage or line of business to which the endorsement or form applies. For example, "CL" applies to commercial lines, "FO" is used for farm property coverage, "GL" is for liability coverages, and "ML" is for multi-line.

FORMS DESCRIPTION DISCLAIMER

The brief narrative description and explanation of the form or endorsement’s use and intent is only a summary. The entire form or endorsement must be examined carefully to completely understand how it modifies the basic coverage form to which it applies.

(Use with FO-1, FO-2, FO-3, and FO 0005)

This endorsement must be examined very carefully. Multiple private structures can be listed, and a limit entered for each one in the space provided on the endorsement schedule, but this endorsement does not increase the limit for Coverage B. It is 2% in all other states.

(Use with FO-1, FO-2, FO-3, and FO-4)

Fences, driveways, sidewalks, and in-ground swimming pools are not considered in determining the $1,000 restriction.

FO-255–Repair Cost Terms

(Use with FO-1, FO-2, FO-3, and FO 0005)

This endorsement amends the loss settlement provisions of the dwelling coverage forms. One major change is that it removes the 80% insurance-to-value requirement. As long as the property is repaired or replaced at the same site or very close to it, it is covered for the cost to repair or replace it by using common, readily available building materials from the local area. However, losses are settled on an actual cash value basis if the insured decides not to repair or replace according to this endorsement’s terms. It cannot be used with mobile homes.
